14K Gold $5 Liberty Coin Rope Bezel Pendant Some of our most popular jewelry is our coin jewelry, and the intricacy of this piece shows you why. This $5 Liberty coin was first struck in 1795 and minted through 1907. Christian Gobrecht's design with a Liberty head encircled by 13 stars was introduced in 1839. This screwtop rope bezel pendant measures 1-1/2" x 1-1/16" with a 3/16" bail. Often referred to as a "Half Eagle", it was the first gold coin actually struck for the United states. There are many varieties among the early dates caused by changes in the number of stars, style of eagle, over-dates, and differences in the size of figures in the dates. The slogan "IN GOD WE TRUST" previously used on the reverse, was dropped, probably because of a shortage of space.
